Knee News

As I have mentioned, my right knee has been bothering me since before I ran Indy. I took 3 weeks off after the race, hoping to give it a break, and come back pain free.

But, no such luck.

When I started back 3 weeks ago, my knee was hurting worse than ever and I was pretty concerned about it. So, I made a doctor's appointment to have it checked out.

That first week, it pretty much hurt non-stop.......except for when I ran. The only time it felt comfortable and "normal" was while I was running.

Explain that one to me!!

But, I am very happy to report that for the past 5 days it seems to be feeling better. It still hurts for a while after I finish running, but after a few hours it feels normal again.

The appointment is tomorrow, so I guess I'll see what she has to say. It is with my primary care practitioner, so I'm pretty much expecting an "I don't know" and a referral to an orthopedic specialist.

So, for now, I'm just going to keep on running.

Until someone tells me not to.

Then I'll stop.

Maybe.

  2. I told my doctor that my knee hurt in two places.

He told me to stop going to those places.

    Stay tuned...

  3. I have had similar bouts of knee pain. Now this advice is worth what you paid for it but google patellofemoral pain.(sp)

I have had bouts of it "diagnosed by a doctor" and it never hurts when you run just after sitting and then moving. Going down stairs or hills. If you are feeling stuff like that this may be your issue.

You can run through it and help it with Physical Therapy. I do straight leg lifts in all four directions. strengthen the quad and stretch stretch stretch. I am sure the doc will have more answers and better advice.

    Good luck

  4. Knees are the worst when they hurt! I had to deal with knee pain for about 2 years. I was diagnosed with several different things, but none of my therapy helped. The reason - we were focusing on the wrong thing. It turned out my knee pain was a result of issues with my hip flexors! Weird, huh? Anyway, if you get to a dead end - there's something to look into. Good luck. Hope your knees are back to normal SOON!

  5. Well, then, maybe you should just NEVER stop running :)

Don't worry, I'm sure the doc will have answers - try to see a sports medicine specialist, they're the best. Physio is like crosstraining!
